Best Areas to Stay in Les Deux Alpes: A Street-by-Street Guide

Les Deux Alpes is unusual among French resorts: it’s built along a single, roughly 2km high street that runs the length of the village, with the glacier and main lift network rising directly behind it. That layout makes “where to stay” less about hunting for a hidden gem and more about deciding how close you want to be to the lifts, the nightlife and the quieter fringes. Here’s how the village breaks down, area by area, so you can match one of our 78+ Les Deux Alpes properties to the kind of week you actually want.

1. Centre / Jandri area — for first-timers and ski-in/ski-out convenience

The area around the Jandri Express gondola (the main lift out of the resort, up to the glacier) is the busiest and most convenient stretch of the village. Apartments and chalets here put you within a few minutes’ walk of the lift queue, the ski schools, and the thickest concentration of restaurants and rental shops. It’s the obvious choice if it’s your first trip, you’re travelling with a mixed-ability group, or you simply don’t want to think about logistics before 9am. The trade-off is noise and footfall — this is also where most of the après-ski action starts each afternoon (see our guide to après-ski in Les Deux Alpes).

2. Venosc end — quieter, better value, still walkable

At the southern end of the village, towards Venosc and the older parts of town, things calm down considerably. You’ll find better-value apartments and older-style chalets, a short (10-15 minute) walk or a hop on the free shuttle bus from the lifts, and a noticeably more residential feel in the evenings. Good for families with younger children who want an early night, or anyone on a tighter budget who doesn’t mind a slightly longer walk to the slopes.

3. Alpe de Venosc / lower village — self-catering value

Some of our most competitively priced properties, from around £300-£450/week, sit in this lower stretch. You’re a short shuttle ride from the lifts rather than a walk, but you’ll pay noticeably less for the same bed count — worth it if your budget is going on lift passes and equipment rather than location.

4. Slopeside / upper village — for ski-in/ski-out purists

A handful of properties sit directly on or beside the piste, letting you click into your skis outside the door. These book up fastest for February half-term and Easter, so if true ski-in/ski-out matters to you, look early and expect to pay a premium over the village-centre equivalent.

Quick recommendation by trip type

  • First-time skiers / mixed groups: Centre / Jandri area
  • Families with young children: Venosc end or anywhere near the Alpette beginner lifts — see our family guide to Les Deux Alpes
  • Budget-conscious groups: Alpe de Venosc / lower village self-catering
  • Ski-in/ski-out purists: Slopeside upper village
  • Party groups: Centre, as close to the main strip as possible

Whichever end of the village you choose, the free shuttle bus runs the full length of Les Deux Alpes regularly through the day and evening, so nowhere is really cut off.
