Best Luxury 4★+ Ski Chalets and Apartments in the Alps

Some ski trips are about racking up as much vertical as possible. Others are about the chalet itself — the roll-top bath, the fire pit, the view you photograph on arrival and again on the last morning. If it’s the latter, here’s where our highest-rated properties are, and what actually separates a genuinely luxury stay from one that’s just expensive.

Our luxury filter, explained

The Luxury 4★+ chalets & apartments filter shows only the best-rated properties we list — real 4★ and 5★ residences and chalets, not a marketing label. Sort by stars, then use Compare to weigh up finish, facilities and location before you commit, since two 5★ properties in the same resort can still be very different trips.

Best resorts for a luxury ski trip

• Val Thorens — Some of our highest-rated 5★ residences and hotels are here, several with ski-in/ski-out access straight from the door and proper spa facilities on site.
• L’Alpe d’Huez — A strong run of CGH Résidence & Spa 5★ properties, combining boutique finish with genuine ski-in/ski-out positioning on one of the Alps’ biggest sunny ski areas.
• Flaine — Purpose-built but increasingly smart, with 5★ residences that pair modern architecture with direct piste access.
• Chamonix — The most storied resort in the Alps, with a mix of characterful chalets and high-end apartments for those who want luxury with genuine mountaineering heritage attached.

What separates a genuinely luxury stay from an expensive one

• Ski-in/ski-out positioning — the biggest single factor in a luxury trip feeling effortless. Check the exact distance to the nearest lift on the property page, not just the resort name.
• In-house facilities — a private spa, pool, sauna or hot tub on-site (rather than a walk away) is what tends to separate top-tier residences from merely nice ones.
• Service level — some 5★ properties include concierge, ski storage with boot warmers, or catered options; others are self-catered apartments with a 5★ finish but no staff. Both are valid — know which you’re booking.
• Real reviews, real photos — every property we list has honest details and real photos, so check the specifics (view, floor, exact facilities) rather than assuming every 5★ listing is identical.

Not sure which luxury property fits your group and budget? Tell our AI trip finder what matters most to you — ski-in/ski-out, a private hot tub, a specific resort — and it will shortlist real, bookable properties and explain honestly which ones fit.
