Les Deux Alpes Ski Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Les Deux Alpes is SkiGB’s biggest single resort by inventory, with over 78 properties on offer — and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. Built along a single high street beneath one of Europe’s most reliable glaciers, it combines snow-sure skiing from December to May, a genuinely lively après-ski scene, and a Famille Plus certification that makes it one of the safest bets in the Alps for a family holiday. This guide pulls together everything you need to plan a trip, with links through to detailed guides on each topic.

Where to stay

Les Deux Alpes runs along a roughly 2km high street, so location is mostly a question of how close to the lifts (and the nightlife) you want to be. Our full breakdown covers the busy, convenient centre near the Jandri Express gondola, the quieter Venosc end for families and budget-conscious groups, and the handful of true ski-in/ski-out properties in the upper village. Snow conditions and the glacier

The Mont de Lans glacier at 3,600m is what sets Les Deux Alpes apart from lower resorts — it keeps the upper mountain skiing reliably from early season right through to spring, even when snow lower down is patchy. Our snow conditions guide covers what to expect at different times of year and how conditions typically change through the day across the huge 2,300m altitude range.

Après-ski and nightlife

From altitude terrace parties at Pano Bar to village institutions like La Grotte du Yeti, Les Deux Alpes has one of the most varied après-ski scenes in the Alps — as well as family-friendly early evenings if you’re not out for a big night. See our full après-ski in Les Deux Alpes guide for the best bars, clubs and how the evening builds through the night.

Family holidays

Les Deux Alpes has held France’s Famille Plus certification since 2009 — one of only 41 resorts nationally — thanks to its ski kindergartens from age 3, a crèche from 6 months, free lift passes for under-5s, and a mostly flat, pedestrianised village that’s easy to navigate with kids in tow. Our family ski guide to Les Deux Alpes covers ski schools, childcare, beginner slopes and what to do off the mountain.

Getting there

Grenoble Airport is your closest gateway, around 109km and typically 1h45-2h away by transfer (longer on Saturdays and during French school holidays). Lyon and Geneva are further options if your flights work out better. Read our full guide to getting to Les Deux Alpes for shared vs private transfer options and timing tips.
