Val Thorens Ice Driving
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at Ice Driving?
Val Thorens is one of a few ski resorts which allow you to not only watch previous Formula 1 drivers race, but also to try it yourself! Just below the resort Val Thorens has an Ice Driving Academy which teaches the public how to drive on ice. This is not only really good fun but also a very good skill to have for when you are driving on the roads to Val Thorens.
They have several cars to try which include Renault Clio’s, Megane’s, Twingo’s, Sprint buggy’s, Mitsubishi Evo 6 and Silhouette racing cars. The prices are different depending on the vehicle you are driving, here is a link to their site.
This track is used by 4 times Formula 1 Champion Alain Prost and in fact is now named after him. Every December the track plays host to the Trophee Andros Ice Championship first leg, so if you are in resort at the same time ski down and have a watch.
For all you Top Gear fans Jeremy and the guys took a few cars up there in December 2008 to have ago themselves, however their cars were not quite up to the job! Some of the guys here at SkiGB went down to meet them and stand out in the cold to watch, it was probably the coldest day of the season too!
